This is my review of the recent CN show Young Justice:
Young Justice is by far the best DC comics based show aired thus far, with maybe the exception of the action drama Human Target. Most DC shows in the past strive to exhibit lesser known characters such as the 10 Eyed Man and Circe. Young Justice shows an equal amount of popular and unknown characters, while also showing them in a new light. Take the muscle bound freak Bane for example. Most of ten he is shown as a brute with no intelligence and is just a lapdog for hire. In the Young Justice episode "Drop Zone", Bane is transformed into an honorable leader who cares only for reclaiming his land. The biggest change of all would have to be with the two most recognized superheros of all time, Superman and Batman. In every other form, Superman is kind to all while Batman is the one who shuns people and inspires fear. However, in Young Justice Superman has become an ice cold statue towards his "son", Superboy. Batman, however, is more of a father figure to Superboy, but encourages Superman to at least show Superboy some acceptance.
The show also takes the DC Universe into its own hands, creating characters such as the new Aqualad, Kaldur'ahm. Some might claim that Kaldur is the same character as the Kaldur who appeared in the recent DC comics event, Blackest Night/Brightest Day but thats a review for another day. And yes, they are the same. But, the YJ Kaldur was created before the event.
Anyway, Kaldur has had a profound change on the rest of the team, both familiar and un. Aqualad is usually the character Garth, but Kaldur has brought a new dynamic to the title. By creating a love triangle between him, Garth, and Garths girlfriend Tula, more drama has been added to the show, allowing it to be seen by people of all age groups.
This series Robin, Richard Grayson, takes Robin into an even better dimension. Previously, Robin was either a brooding creature like Batman, or a hyperactive kid who says holy this and holy that. This Robin is true to the original robin, cracking jokes and kicking butt. However, he is also similair to the Robins of today. His costume is obviously a copy of that of the third Robins , Tim Drake, in his second costume. He also seems to be obsessed with the prefixes and sufixes of words.
Kid Flash has almost no changes from previous incarnations. Wally is still a fun loving, egotistic kid. But like everyone else on the team, he knows when to get serious. He also has somewhat of a relationship with team mate Artemis. Disliking her from the first moment he saw her, he constantly argued with her. However, in the next episode, Kent Nelson tells him to find his own Spitfire, someone who wont let him get away with anything. As only two young girls have appeared thus far, Artemis is most likely to be his spitfire
Artemis Crock is somewhat a mystery to me. Never before has she been on TV before, and has little appearance in comics. She is, like I said above, a spitfire. She is rough and tough, yet also enjoys the simple pleasure of girly gossip. She also appears to have some feelings for Wally, as exhibited by the fact that she did not refuse Wally's hand when he held hers.
Miss Martian, Megan Morse, is a bit of a ditz and tends to often hit her head saying "Hello, Megan!". She has an obvious crush on Superboy and he appears to return her feelings. They may or may nit have kissed, as the outcome of their scene in Downtime was never revealed.
